In 1991 the ECD (European Catering Distributors) was founded on the initiative of the Service-Bund (service association) to assure – beyond its market coverage in Germany – the same standards of care in the catering and hospitality industry across Europe. Currently the ECD now has fourteen European wholesale federations who have joined forces i.e. Germany, Austria, Italy, Sweden, Holland, Norway, France, Denmark, United Kingdom, Poland, Belgium, Romania, Croatia and Finland. The ECD will assure that service performance across Europe is of the highest standard, and will continue to improve this further by sharing knowledge and information between its Members. The ECD will extend its influence not only within the EU, but also with other European countries by increasing its Membership. It will always recognise and adjust to meet the specific service and product requirements of its individual Members. The ECD objective in serving the eating out of home market can be said to be:- To grow our market share by recognising the individual needs of all of our customers and to provide them with the highest standards of service, support, co-operation and innovation.
